Overstock.com to Launch Streaming Video Service

Overstock (OSTK) is looking to rival Amazon (AMZN) with a streaming video service.

OverstockThe retailer’s VOD service is slated for a mid-2015 release. Overstock will release a variety of original and acquired content through the streaming service.

CEO Patrick Byrne said the company will analyze its customers’ searches in order to determine what movies and TV shows to include in VOD. Overstock has 25 million to 40 million unique visitors a month.

Members of Overstock’s loyalty program will have access to the service. “We think our loyalty program is better than Amazon’s,” said Byrne.

The program costs $20 a year.

OSTK is down 2.8% Tuesday afternoon. AMZN stock is down 0.4%.
