Wickr is a messaging app that allows users to protect their photos with pictures of cats.

wickrWickr allows users to share photos to Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) without the actual photo being put on the website. Instead, a picture of a cat is used. This picture contains a link to the real photo being shared, but it can only be seen by other users of the app, reports TechCrunch.

The app was created Nico Sell for her teenage daughter. She hopes it could bring her back to using Facebook without having to worry about sharing information on the platform. The cat picture basically act as a defense to keep the social media service from owning a users pictures. Expansions to other social media service are being planned by the developers, TechCrunch notes.

The app lets users share pictures via their Wicker Time Feed (WTF). The developers say that it chose those letters on purpose because they believe that’s what people will say when they see a Facebook page covered in cats, reports Forbes.
