The iOS 8.3 beta allows users to select emoji based on six different skin tones. The update with the new emoji will include a total of 300 new emoji. The new colors for the icons can be selected by holding down on the normal icon until a palette to switch the icon’s race pops up, reports CNN Money.

The current list of emoji available outside of the iOS 8.3 beta is very limited in terms of race. Two fo the only racially diverse emoji include an Asian man in a cap and an Indian man in a turban.Apple decided it needed to bring more racially diverse emoji to its interface last year after complaints, CNN Money notes.

Despite efforts to include more races in its emoji, Apple is already catching flak from some people. These people are concerned that the new Asian emoji are too yellow. Some users of the Chinese board Weibo were dismissive of the new emoji, reports Quartz.
