Wilson Sporting Goods paid Hillerich & Bradsby $70 million for the Louisville Slugger brand. John A. Hillerich, CEO of Hillerich & Bradsby, said that the brand was sold partially due to lawsuits concerning injuries from metal bats, reports ESPN.

Hillerich also said that the company was unable to provide the resources necessary to meet the brand awareness associated with Louisville Slugger. The company will still make the bats, but it will do so only for Wilson Sporting Goods, ESPN notes.

“I still remember my first Louisville Slugger bat as a kid,” Paul Molitor, Hall of Fame player and Minnesota Twins manager, told The Seattle Times. “All I knew was that Harmon Killebrew used one, and that was good enough for me.”
