ibs-irritable-bowel-syndromePatients that may have IBS now only have to take two blood tests to determine if they have the disease. A study of 3,000 people was conducted using these tests it they were able to identify two antibodies that are commonly associated with irritable bowel syndrome, reports U.S. News & World Report.

The IBS blood tests will also be able to tell patients if they have inflammatory bowel disease. These tests will be labelled as IBSchek. Prior to these new tests, the only way to diagnose irritable bowel syndrome was a series of x-rays and colonoscopies to make sure it wasn’t another disease, U.S. News & World Report notes.

“My body is my own personal Judas, constantly betraying me,” Meg Mankin, who has IBS, told Medical Daily. “I’m that cramped and sweaty person in the meeting at work, constantly squirming in my chair that was strategically chosen for its close proximity to the door.”
