The change to Facebook News Feeds is being made because people trying to connect to the social media platform in developing countries are doing so on limited internet. This internet is usually 2G and it just can’t handle the current Facebook very well.

To change the problem with Facebook News Feeds on slow connections, the company had made some updates that will help with loading. These changes include being able to determine the speed and type of network that a user is on when connecting to the service.

Being able to detect network types and speeds means that the company can choose what shows up in users’ Facebook News Feeds. For example, those running on slower connections won’t see videos show up in their Feed. The system will also work to prioritize content in the News Feed that the person is currently looking at over content they aren’t.
