Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) is changing the way you approve of other tweets.

TwitterThe social media site is trading its star-shaped “favorites” in exchange for red heart-shaped likes. The changes also applies to another Twitter-owned app—Vine.

“We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers,” product manager Akarshan Kumar said in a blog post.

Favorites have been around since the inception of Twitter in 2006, predating both Tumblr’s red hearts and Facebook’s “like” button, arriving in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Favs have become an essential part of the Twittersphere, but heart-shaped likes seem to appeal to more users.

TWTR stock is down 0.21% Tuesday.
