Ford GT to Get Gorilla Glass Windshield

The technology already exists on cell phones

Ford GT (NYSE:F) is getting the Gorilla Glass windshield treatment.

The automotive company is making waves with its 2017 model of vehicle, implementing high strength and lightweight glass technology on the twin turbocharged vehicle.

The Ford GT will come equipped with Gorilla Glass, which is already used on many smartphones and tablets to keep the surface areas protected.

“Ford GT is setting new standards for innovation through performance and light-weighting, and we’re excited about exploring other applications for this great new technology,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford group vice president, Global Purchasing.

Gorilla Glass is more durable and less likely to shatter compared with traditional types of glass. It meets or exceeds every safety requirement and it’s 12% lighter than classic windshields.

F stock is up 3.3% Wednesday.
