People are constantly asking me what to do with their money. Most of the time I tell them to buy me a drink. But the rest of the time I tell them to look at what’s going on around them and think about what they’re doing and what they’re buying.
For example, as of this morning (Monday) the East Coast is buried in snow. It’s Snowmageddon II, or The Snowpacalypse thanks to a Snowacane from Winter Storm Jonas.
A bunch of my friends like me so much that they moved across the country to the East Coast. I asked them on Friday how they were prepping for the arrival of Kaiser Snowsay.
The industrious types were loading up on the essentials so they can hustle some poor sap who really needs a shovel out of a C note. That’s supply and demand folks, nothing wrong with that. They were hitting up Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) Home Depot (HD) to stock up.
My friend Trainwreck Tim was super excited for the chance to dust off his Polaris (PII) snowmobile and tear up the trails. Nothing says “Winter Wonderland” like a roving pack of hillbillies on sleds with 150 horsepower between their legs. While zero to sixty in on a frozen lake in 4.4 seconds sounds awesome, Polaris stock shouldn’t get you that excited. Polaris is a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), suffering from a glut of recalls earlier this season.
The overarching common denominator between everybody was wine. Not whining like “I can’t believe it’s gonna snow in January.” I’m talking Merlot, Cabernet, or my personal favorite, a nice tart, earthy Barbera d’Alba. Trust me, the last thing you want to be staring at with a foot and a half of snow outside your window is an empty Magnum of yellow tail. My suggestion, go Biblical. Grab a Nabuchadnezzar sized bottle of the good stuff and dream your way to Babylon. Just hope you don’t wake up with your clothes hanging in the garden.
