Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) will soon allow some tweets to be longer than the current character limit.
The social media site announced that it will keep its 140-character limit in place, but links and photos will no longer count towards this amount.
Up until now, links have been taking up about 23 characters, considerably reducing the length of millions of tweets around the world.
The move will mark the first time that Twitter has changed its iconic 140-character limit since its inception in 2006.
TWTR stock is up 0.4% Tuesday.
