The new rules that govern commercial drones were created as the gadgets continue to grow in popularity. Here are five things to know about drones:

  • All drones must be registered and renewed every two years.
  • Owners must be at least 16 years old to register their drone.
  • The FAA says these devices can weigh up to 55 pounds.
  • They can only fly in daylight hours, and only up to 400 feet in the air.
  • The FAA has already granted commercial flight permission to at least 5,300 drones.

Between 700,000 and 1 million drones were sold in the most recent holiday season.
