The device is slightly different from most e-readers, with one major improvement. Here are nine things to know about it:
- It is larger than most e-readers in the market with a screen that is 7.8 inches long. The industry standard is about 6-7 inches nowadays.
- However, the Kobo Aura One is quite thin at 6.9mm and weighing 230 grams, making it thinner than the iPhone 6S.
- The feature that makes this gadget stand out compared to other e-readers is that it is water resistant. You can submerge it down to about 2 meters of water.
- The device is compatible with a company called OverDrive, Inc. that offers digitalY book rentals for free. You will only be able to access the books you download for a limited time, but you can always rent them again.
- You can also read articles with the Kobo Aura One by syncing it to your Pocket account.
- It has a touch screen and no physical buttons other than the power/sleep buttons.
- The device comes equipped with a 1gHz processor and 512mb of RAM.
- It will be released Sept. 6 in the U.S. and Canada for $229 and $249 respectively.
- The Kobo Aura One will then be launched elsewhere in the world, including the UK, France, Germany and Japan.
