Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) now requires a finger scan for kids before they can enter its parks.
The new change from Disney is designed to cut down on fraud. The policy now includes kids ranging from age three to nine. Parents that don’t want their kids to go through the process can use their own fingerprint instead.
The finger scan is already required for kids older than nine and adults to enter Disney’s parks. Without the finger scan requirement, the company argues that it is easy for those attending its parks to share tickets between each other, reports Orlando Sentinel.
Parents that are worried that the most magical place on Earth is collecting the fingerprints to create a database of children need not. The company said that the fingerprints are converted into a unique numerical value and the image is deleted.
A spokeswoman for Walt Disney World told RT that the company started requiring kids ages three to nine to get their fingerprints scanned in August.
Disney works hard to make sure that it doesn’t break the experience for its visitors, which is why the fingerprint scanning for kids seems like a strange move. The company won’t even mention Zika Virus in warning posters around its parks to avoid breaking the illusion. Yet it still offers free mosquito repellent to visitors.
However, Disney did have to put up alligator warnings signs at one of its resorts. This was needed after a two-year old boy was dragged into the water and killed by an alligator while walking on a beach at on of the locations.
