US News: 10 Best Colleges for 2017

US News has released its annual compilation of the best colleges in the country.

The top institutions from its National Universities category take all levels of higher education into account, including undergraduate programs, master’s and doctoral programs. Research conducted by scholars and students is also taken into consideration when determining this ranking.

Here are the top 10 best colleges in the nation for 2017:

  1. Princeton University
  2. Harvard University
  3. University of Chicago
  4. Yale University
  5. Columbia University
  6. Stanford University
  7. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  8. Duke University
  9. University of Pennsylvania
  10. Johns Hopkins University

Other US News rankings include the top liberal arts institutions in the U.S., which is topped by Williams College, Amherst College, Wellesley College, Middlesbury College and Swarthmore College.

The publication also released a selection of the Best Value Colleges, which includes Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and MIT as the cream of the crop for what you pay.

The Top Public National Universities has University of California–Berkeley, University of California–Los Angeles, University of Virginia, University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill ranked as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

US News also allows you to see the best regional colleges, or even choose the state you live in and check out the rankings per place.

The institutions that you may not want to attend are for-profit educators, as ITT recently shut down unexpectedly due to the fact that many students were unable to finish their degrees and ended with massive debt they could not pay for.
