AT&T Inc. (T) Launches Roaming Service in Cuba

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) is letting customers keep in contact while in Cuba with new roaming services.

AT&T, T Stock, CubaAT&T customers that take a trip to Cuba will be able to use the new roaming service to keep in contact with family and friends. However, it won’t be cheap.

Here is a breakdown of the roaming charges customers will face while using AT&T in Cuba.

  • Voice — Customer can spend $3 per minute to make calls while in the country.
  • SMS — Those looking to text with friends and family while in Cuba will spend 50 cents on each one.
  • MMS — Customers that want to send and receive multimedia messages while visiting Cuba will spend $1.30 per text.
  • Data — If customers want to use their data while in Cuba, it will set them back by $2.05 for each MB they use.

“We know our customers want uninterrupted connectivity and a continuous mobile experience. This is especially true as more visit Cuba,” Bill Hague, executive vice president of AT&T Global Connection Management, said in a statement. “Extending service to our customers while they are in Cuba further solidifies our position as having the best global coverage of any U.S wireless provider.”

AT&T’s decision to offer roaming services in Cuba come as the United States allows trade and travel with the communist nation. President Barack Obama recently eased restrictions on Cuban cigars and rum. This lets U.S. citizens that travel to the country bring more home with them.

AT&T isn’t the only wireless provider that is offering roaming services in Cuba. T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS) is also offering roaming services to its customers that travel to the island nation.
