Twitter Inc (Apparently) Testing Muted Words Feature

Twitter Inc (NASDAQ:TWTR) is offering a new “Muted Words” feature that allows you to block certain keywords and hashtags from showing up.

Twitter IncThe functionality essentially blocks names of people, companies, keywords or phrases that you don’t want to see in your social media feed. The company has yet to release it for everyone, but a number of iOS users saw the feature on their devices briefly on Sunday.

It is unclear whether or not Twitter is releasing it for everyone or testing it, but it appears that sharing it yesterday was an honest mistake by the network as Muted Words was disabled soon after.

A user showed a screenshot of what the new iOS feature will look like, essentially allowing you to write certain words and choosing to press a button that will block said words from your Twitter account.

The user then shared a screenshot of their account minutes later, which removed the feature. It originally appeared under the ‘Notifications’ menu in settings, allowing you to toggle the functionality.

The feature will likely also remove any articles, tweets or images that you search as long as they include your Muted Words.

Twitter has been looking for a potential suitor to take over the company, but it seems that the candidates to acquire the social media site lose interest as quickly as they gain it, and the company may not have much to choose from going forward.

TWTR stockis up 1.6% Monday.
