Delta Air Lines, Inc. Will Now Award Delta SkyMiles for Airbnb Stays

Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE:DAL) customers can now earn Delta SkyMiles that you can redeem through Airbnb.

Delta SkyMilesThe airline announced that consumers who fly with the company can use its frequent-flier program to earn miles that can be used toward Airbnb, which is a service that allows you to stay at someone else’s home for an affordable price, proving to be cheaper than many hotels.

For every one dollar spent on the airline, customers will get one Delta SkyMiles point, which allows you to make Airbnb bookings through delta.com/airbnb. “This partnership brings together two innovative brands focused on delivering superior travel experiences across the globe to customers,” Sandeep Dube, Delta’s VP – Customer Engagement & Loyalty, says in a statement.

A travel consultancy firm determined that close to 20% of U.S. travelers have used a home-sharing site such as Airbnb and Delta is aware of this. As part of the partnership, Airbnb will pay Delta for the miles its airline customers tally up through their bookings, which is the same business models that hotels follow with their rewards offerings that exist via airlines.

A spokesman for te firm added that Airbnb has houses for rent in nearly every city that Delta and its partners fly to.

Airbnb has yet to disclose plans of going public, making the public believe that it will stick with being a private company. It is valued at around $30 billion.

DAL shares gained 0.4% Thursday.
