Tesla Motors Inc is issuing the recall due to complaints from customers about them overheating. The company has received two different reports of the adapters overheating, which could melt the plastic around the plugs. The accessories weren’t overly used and haven’t been sold for about six months.

The reports of the Tesla Motors Inc charging adapters overheating were made in November. It is advising owners of the charging adapters that can overheat to use a different method to charge their cars.

Here is a list of the charging adapters that are being recalled by Tesla Motors Inc.

  • NEMA 14-30
  • NEMA 10-30
  • NEMA 6-50

There are four other charging adapters that Tesla Motors Inc sells online, but they aren’t affected by the recall. Here are the adapters that aren’t part of the recall.

  • NEMA 6-15
  • NEMA 5-15
  • NEMA 5-20
  • NEMA 14-50

Tesla Motors Inc is also pointing out that the newest version of the NEMA 14-30 adapter does not need to be replaced. This adapter has a grey piece of plastic around the plug and hasn’t been reported as overheating. The NEMA 10-30, NEMA 6-50 also haven’t experienced overheating, but are being recalled because they share a similar design to the NEMO 14-30.

Customers that own the NEMA 10-30 and NEMA 6-50 charging adapters included in the recall will have to wait about three months for replacements. However, owners can still use them until replacement ones arrive due to there being no reports of them overheating.
