Apple Inc. Rumors and AAPL Stock News – iPhone GPS, Kindle App for iPad and More

If you managed to get an Apple iPhone 4 over the weekend, you’re one of the lucky ones. Here’s the latest Apple rumors and news on AAPL stock as of Monday, June 28. We’ll cover everything from Apple Inc and its 1.7M in iPhone sales, the red hot Kindle app for the iPad and Apple GPS capabilities.

1.7 Million iPhones Sold in 3 Days: AAPL beat iPhone sales expectations for the first weekend performance of their new smartphone, the iPhone 4. Analysts predicted Friday that, based on consumer turnout to Apple retail outlets and the more than 600,000 iPhone 4 preorders, Apple stood to sell 1.5 million iPhones during the launch period. They sold more than that, and they sold ten times more iPhone 4s at launch than last year’s iPhone 3G. AAPL’s chain of Apple Stores sold out of the device as did many Best Buy (BBY) and Wal-mart (WMT) locations. The iPhone 4 marks the company’s most successful product launch in history. Based on the good momentum, AAPL shares were up 3 cents in premarket trading this morning.

Amazon Beefs Up Kindle App: Amazon (AMZN) updated their Kindle eReader application for Apple’s iOS devices, including the iPhone 4 and iPad. The Kindle app now supports e-books that feature both audio and video components, taking advantage of the iPhone 4’s new Retina Display technology. The application launched with titles including Rick Steve’s London, Knitting for Dummies, and Together We Cannot Fail by Terry Golway. It is particularly notable that the iOS Kindle application supports multimedia functionality not supported on any model of AMZN’s own Kindle handheld eReader.

iPhone 4 Features Improved GPS Accuracy: AAPL’s iPhone 4 features significantly improved GPS functionality over its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS. This is thanks to the implementation of Broadcom’s new BCM4750 GPS chip, the same model featured in Apple’s 3G iPad. The new chip allows for markedly faster and more accurate GPS navigation on the new smartphone. iFixit has a complete report on the new functionality as part of it’s iPhone 4 dissection.
