Apple Inc. (AAPL) Devices Now Have Access to Google Voice App

Here is your daily Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) stock news and rumors for September 28, 2010. Google gets around to releasing their official Google Voice app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Goldman Sachs says that the 7-inch iPad isn’t coming any time soon, but a new iPad is in the cards for early 2011. Finally, Apple releases an update for their Remote app that brings support to the iPad and new Apple TV.

Apple Approves Official Google Voice App: When Apple eased its verification requirements for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch apps earlier this month, people immediately began speculating if the numerous Google Voice, apps based on Google Inc.‘s (NASDAQ: GOOG) VoIP service, would return to the App Store after their very public removal. On September 20th, both GV Mobile+ and GV Connect reappeared on the App Store. These are independently developed apps, however, not versions of Google Voice made directly by the technology behemoth. Now, according to a report from TechCrunch published this morning, Apple has now approved an official Google Voice app for inclusion in the App Store. The app application is the same one that was submitted for approval last year and was tied up by Apple in an attempt to keep the free phone service off the machine. Google has reportedly updated the app to reflect the new tech in Apple’s iPhone 4 and iOS 4 platform. Google has not said whether or not the Google Voice app will support the recently launched Google Talk service that allows Gmail and Google Voice users to call any phone in the United States, mobile and landline, free of charge.

Thinner, Camera-Equipped iPad Coming in 2011 Says Goldman Sachs: Looks like the 7-inch iPad might be further off than some have predicted based on a new report from Goldman Sachs analysts Kevin Lu and Henry King. Contradicting numerous rumors from the past four months, King and Lu predict that Apple’s next version of the iPad will in fact be a second-generation version of the current 9.7-inch model. The new iPad will be manufactured by Hon Hai, currently the exclusive manufacturer of iPads, and will hit retailers in the first quarter of calendar 2011. The new iPad will include a camera and mini USB support in addition to being both lighter and thinner than the first-generation iPad. Lu and King also claim that the 7-inch iPad, while still planned for release, has “not yet been finalized.”

AAPL Releases Remote App Update With Apple TV, iPad, and Retina Display Support: It’s been nearly twelve months since the iOS Remote app that lets users control iTunes and Apple TV via their Apple mobile devices has been updated. Today is the day though, as Apple has released Remote App 2.0. The update brings the app some much needed features, including support for shared libraries on both the new iTunes and new Apple TV. It also supports Retina displays and, as you might expect, the update finally brings support to the iPad. This will finally bring the capability to stream video from the iPad to your television through the Apple TV that was debuted earlier this month into the home.
