Monday’s Apple Rumors — iPhone 4 Flexes

Here are your Apple rumors and news items for Monday:

iPhone Wins!: When people weren’t lined up around the block for days for Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 4 offered by Verizon (NYSE:VZ), some industry commentators were ready to write it off as a failure. However, while the phone perhaps didn’t meet some lofty expectations, no phone sold better in February than the Verizon iPhone 4, according to research firm comScore’s monthly report, which includes all types of mobile phones, not just smartphones. Apple now controls 7.5% of the total U.S. mobile market, gaining fast on Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM), which has an 8.6% share.

MacBook Air Bringing It: JPMorgan analyst Mark Moskowitz told investors in a Monday note that Apple’s PC business is as healthy as ever — despite the ever-growing importance of its portable devices. The new ultra-light MacBook Air line of laptops, in particular, are performing well for the company, and Moskowitz predicts that this device alone has the potential to generate $2.2 billion in revenue across 2011. MacBook Air sales more than tripled in 2010, with much of that growth following the fall release of the most recent model. All Apple has to do to hit the $2.2 billion benchmark is continue selling around 420,000 laptops each quarter. while maintaining current pricing.

iPod Nano 7 Leak: Hints of new iPod models have been scarce so far in 2011, but the rumor mill is now beginning to churn out details on the next evolution of Apple’s undying line of media players. Taiwanese website Apple.pro posted what it claims to be a casing fixture for a seventh-generation iPod Nano. The casing features a slot for a camera on the backside of the 3cm X 3cm media player. While the wesbsite was unable to confirm the image’s authenticity, AppleInsider notes that Apple.pro has a history of posting legitimate early images of Apple products. Apple.pro actually leaked early details of every previous iPod Nano model.
