Double Eagle Soars While Real America Index Skids

Wyoming’s Double Eagle Petroleum (NASDAQ: DBLE) is up 8.13%, even though energy prices are down.  The stock’s move is likely tied to momentum trading on the thinly traded name.

Double Eagle is the best-performing stock on the InvestorPlace.com Real America Index today. Other top performers include:

Nevada’s Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN) is up 2.21%, as analysts predicted that Wynn would beat earnings estimates, thanks to strong Macau gaming revenue.

Vermont’s Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ: GMCR) is bubbling up 0.97%. The stock is a favorite amongst growth investors and momentum traders, so even though there’s no news, the stock is moving anyway.

The Real America Index is down today, and these three stocks are getting the worst of it:

South Dakota’s Daktronics (NASDAQ: DAKT) is down -2.7% on no news.  The stock can be thinly traded, and weak volume is magnifying what would otherwise be a non-event.

Kansas’ Sprint-Nextel

(NYSE: S) is down -3.36%, but since there’s no news here either, it’s probably do to the broader market’s weakness.

Rhode Island’s Hasbro, Inc (NASDAQ: HAS) is down -3.28% today, and not because an 11-year old became the youngest SCRABBLE champ ever.  Or maybe it is.  There’s no news, but the weak jobs report may foretell fewer people spending money on toys.

Looking at the broad perspective, the Real America Index is down a fraction of a percent, outperforming the other three major indices.
