Wednesday Apple Rumors: Apple Lands Another Blow Against Samsung Galaxy Tab

Here are your daily Apple news items and rumors for Wednesday:

Samsung Loses Another Battle: Just one week after Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent suits against Samsung blocked that company from releasing its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in Australia, the South Korean technology company has suffered another defeat. According to a Tuesday report in Bloomberg, a temporary order was issued that will prevent the Galaxy Tab from releasing in all European Union countries except the Netherlands. A district court in Dusseldorf, Germany, granted the injunction to Apple. Samsung representative Kim Titus in turn said the decision was made “without any hearing or presentation of evidence from Samsung.” Given the increasing international pressure facing the company’s tablet, Samsung has to find some way to placate Apple as soon as possible. It seems unlikely that it will recall and scrap the millions of Galaxy Tab devices already manufactured that it currently can’t sell in many markets.

Kindle Don’t Care: Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has found a novel solution for getting around Apple’s new requirements that forbid e-book apps like the Kindle or Barnes & Noble‘s (NYSE:BKS) Nook from including links to purchase content outside of the App Store on the iPad and iPhone. The online retailer has released the Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader, a way to read books purchased through Amazon’s Kindle store via the Safari Web browser on the iPad and iPhone rather than through the Kindle app. Confusing as that sounds, it breaks down to this: Amazon is running a Kindle store through Apple’s app that can include purchase links and Amazon doesn’t have to pay any fees to Apple.

Live TV to iPad: Cablevision (NYSE:CVC) has followed Time Warner‘s (NYSE:TWX) lead in bringing its subscription television service to Apple’s iPad. The big hook for Cablevision’s Optimum television app, though, is that it lets users stream both live television and on-demand programming simultaneously. Investors should keep a close eye on which of the many different television apps popping up for mobile devices draw an audience over the next year.
