Apple Flip-Flops, Goes Green Again

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is in the news so much, it’s sometimes hard to keep up. Earlier this month, for example, the tech company announced that it would no longer submit its products to the EPEAT green registry. And just like that, Apple changed its mind.

The EPEAT registry certifies products as environmentally-friendly based primarily on ease of use in recycling and energy efficiency. And when Apple’s 39 desktop and laptop computers were to be pulled from the list — possibly because of the difficulty in taking apart and recycling the new MacBook Pro — customers weren’t happy.

Bob Mansfield, Apple’s senior vice president for hardware engineering, said in a statement that the company heard from many loyal customers who were disappointed Apple products had been removed. Many cities also said they would no longer purchase laptops and desktops from Apple.

Now, though, Apple’s products are back on the list and the company has renewed its commitment to the environment. “It’s important to know that our commitment to protecting the environment has never changed, and today it is as strong as ever,” Apple said in a recent statement, according to CNN.com
