Six Million iPad Minis Sold by Year End: An analyst with Piper Jaffray (NYSE:PJC) says that Apple (NYSE:AAPL) will introduce a new 7.85-inch iPad later this year, priced around $299, Apple Insider reports. The analyst calculates that the new iPad Mini will have 16 gigabytes of storage. At that price point, the analyst forecasts holiday sales of between four million and six million units, adding roughly 1% to Apple’s annual revenue and earnings for the final month of the year. The analyst has revised his predicted launch date for the iPad Mini from early 2013 to prior to the holiday sales season. Various other reports put the launch of a smaller iPad in September or October.

Samsung Tablets Not as ‘Cool’ as iPads: A judge in the United Kingdom has dismissed Apple’s design infringement suit against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablets, saying consumers wouldn’t confuse the two devices, Bloomberg notes. Judge Colin Birss ruled that Samsung’s tablets lacked the “understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design.” He added, “they are not as cool.” While Samsung managed to evade Apple’s design patent claims with the ruling, the South Korean electronics maker probably wishes the judge had stated his opinion a little differently. Apple maintains the Galaxy Tab copies the iPad’s design. It has three weeks to appeal the ruling.

Apple Products No Longer Officially Green: Apple has asked that 39 of its products be removed from a list of environmentally friendly products, according to the Wall Street Journal. The list, compiled by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), is backed by the Department of Environmental Protection. The U.S. government requires that 95% of its electronics purchases be EPEAT registered products. A requirement for EPEAT listing is easy dis-assembly. New Apple products like the Retina display MacBook Pro cannot be easily disassembled and thus do not qualify for EPEAT listing.
