AOL Renames Group

Customers found the old name confusing


AOL (NYSE:AOL) is changing the name of its marketing group, Group.

The Internet pioneer is rebranding Group as AOL Networks. The former name had caused confusion among consumers, who associated it with the company’s display business, company officials told Adweek.

AOL Still Needs to Patch Up Patch debuted in 2011. AOL decided to change its branding last month. The move is part of restructuring efforts launched by CEO Tim Armstrong.

AOL Networks will include AOL’s ad sales business, AOL On Network, goviral, ADTECH, and Pictela.

In November, AOL posted third-quarter earnings of $20.8 million, topping Wall Street expectations.

Shares of AOL rose fractionally in Tuesday afternoon trading.
