A family in Kingston, Wash. was surprised when a restaurant gave them a discount for having well-behaved kids.
The King family was dining at Sogno di Vino with their three children — ages 8, 3 and 2. When the check arrived, they saw that the server had comped a bowl of ice cream, with the check marked “Well Behaved Kids $ Open Disc 4.00-,” reports Today.com.
Rob Scott, the owner of Sogno di Vino, told Today that he routinely discounts checks for families who have well-behaved children. He said he remembers the King family and how polite the children were, staying in their chairs and saying “please” and “thank you.” It was the first time he’d made the discount plain on the check.
Scott also said that well-manned children aren’t always the case. He told Today that when that happens, “we go to the parents and say, ‘I’m sorry but we really need little Johnny to sit down and not run around and yell and scream … because he’s bothering some of the patrons.’”
Laura King, mother of the three well-behaved youngsters, says the secret is engaging the kids. Keeping them involved in the conversation and talking to them about the restaurant and meal helps them behave.
