Legacy: The shadow cast over Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) product pipeline by its late co-founder Steve Jobs may be even bigger than most imagined. In a meeting with an Apple executive, San Franscisco’s District Attorney George Gascon says he was informed that the development of the next two generations of iPhones was started before Jobs passed away in 2011, Mashable notes. That means that the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6, which are expected to be released this summer and next year, respectively, were designed before current CEO Tim Cook took Apple’s reins. Gascon was attempting to pressure Apple to include a kill switch in its smartphones to frustrate thieves.

Mea Culpa: Apple CEO Tim Cook has issued an apology to the company’s Chinese customers, CNN notes. In a statement posted on Apple’s Chinese language website on Monday, Cook conceded that Apple hadn’t provided adequate communication over its warranty policies in China and said that it would post its warranty terms in a clear and visible way. Cook also said the company would change its repair and replacement policies with regard to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Additionally, Cook promised to make sure that Apple-authorized resellers in China were properly trained in its policies. Apple had come under criticism for its customer service and warranty policies by state-run Chinese media outlets in the past several weeks. Last year, Cook apologized to Apple customers around the world after the a variety of errors and glitches were found in the company’s new maps app.

Size Matters: While Apple has been criticized by some tech analysts for not increasing the size of its iPhone displays to match the larger screens found on some rival smartphones, a new study says devices with larger screens have attracted only marginal numbers of active users, AppleInsider notes. Industry research firm Flurry Analytics released a report on Monday that found that smartphones with screens diagonals ranging from 3.5-inches to 4.9-inches were owned by 72% of active users. Phablets, which sport screen sizes of 5-inches or more, accounted for just 3% of active users. According to Flurry, phablets may end up as a fad given their low number of active users.
