On Wednesday, Google (GOOG) announced that it may expand its Google Fiber high-speed Internet service to 34 new cities across the U.S.
Google noted that it hadn’t yet determined exactly which cities would receive Google Fiber. A Google spokesperson said that the tech giant would “work closely with each city’s leaders” to identify challenges to rolling out Google Fiber in each metropolitan area and how Google Fiber might be deployed in the cities. Not every city on the list may ultimately get Google Fiber. Google indicated that it would disclose which cities on the list had been chosen receive Google Fiber by the end of the year, PC World notes.
Currently, Google Fiber is available in just a handful of U.S. cities, including:
- Austin, Texas
- Provo, Utah
- Kansas City, Kan.
- Kansas City, Mo.
Residents of those cities are paying about $70 a month for basic Google Fiber Internet service and about $120 a month if they add subscription TV service.

- Hillsboro, Ore.

- Lake Oswego, Ore.
- Tigard, Ore.
- Raleigh-Durham, N.C.
- Carrborro, N.C.
- Cary, N.C.
- Chapel Hill, N.C.
- Durham, N.C.

GOOG stock gained slightly in Thursday morning trading. GOOG stock has gained more than 50% over the past year.
