Google Glass is one of the most anticipated gadgets in the world at the moment. Although the device has plenty of incredible features that make life easier for people, it can also cause some distractions.

The gadget has already caused plenty of controversy as some believe people shouldn’t use Google Glass while driving as it could cause accidents similar to texting and driving. There are now bars and strip clubs that are banning the device in order to stop people from taking photos and video.

Everyone knows that you’re not supposed to use your cell phone in movie theaters, but what about smartglasses?

Movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas has banned Google Glass inside its theaters once the light has dimmed. CEO Tim League said that the ban has been issued in order to prevent Internet pirates from filming and illegally distributing movies from its theaters.

Will other movie theaters follow suit and ban Google Glass?

Much like casinos, using cameras in strip clubs is strictly prohibited in most places.

A Las Vegas strip club has issued a statement banning the use of Google Glass inside the club. Peter Feinstein — managing partner of Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club — said that the smartglasses will be treated the same way as smartphones and other cameras.

There are several states that may ban the use of Google Glass while driving.

West Virginia, Illinois and New Jersey are looking to pass bills that would classify Google Glass as a banned hand-held device such as cellphones which would prohibit motorists from wearing the device. There is also plenty of debate regarding the use of Google Glass in a car as some believe smartglasses could distract drivers and increase the probability of an accident.

Google Glass could be a practical work tool for some occupations.

However, there are companies that are banning the use of smartglasses including USAA due to a number of risks. The company believes that the device could be used for malicious reasons. The risk factors listed by USAA include using Google Glass to record inappropriate audio in the workplace and its ability to take images of a sensitive nature.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if other companies established a similar ban in order to maintain the privacy and integrity of the workplace.

Most restaurant will probably allow the use of Google Glass but there are a few exceptions.

The 5 Point Cafe — a dive bar and diner located in Seattle, Washington — calls itself a “No Google Glass Zone.” It may be a wise idea for other restaurants looking to create a quiet and respectful environment to do the same.
