5 Best Sectors to Watch This Week

This week, the commercial banking, aerospace and defense, auto parts, life science and biotechnology sectors are gathering momentum on the Portfolio Grader database.

With 100% of the sector’s stocks (5 out of 5) rating a “buy,” the commercial banking sector is one of the strongest. Near the top of their sector, Pacific Capital Bancorp (PCBC) and StellarOne Corporation (STEL) have A ratings. Citizens Republic Bancorp (CRBC) also gets a B.

The aerospace and defense sector’s track record is proving one of the best with 74% of its stocks (31 out of 42) rating a “buy”. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII), Alliant Techsystem (ATK) and TASER International, Inc. (TASR) are lifting the sector overall, each earning a high grade of A. The best performer in this sector is Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc., which saw its price rise 185.6% in the last 12 months.

Auto parts is excelling, with 71% of stocks in the sector (17 out of 24) rating a “buy”. Dorman Products, Inc. (DORM), Magna International (MGA) and Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. (CPS) are paving the way for the sector with A grades. Over the last 12 months, Magna International is the best performer in this sector, with a 238.9% increase.

With 71% of the sector’s stocks (17 out of 24) rating a “buy,” the life science sector is one of the strongest. Among life science stocks, Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR (WX), Covance (CVD) and Illumina, Inc. (ILMN) are leading the way with A’s. Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR is the top stock in its sector, with a 185.8% increase from 12 months ago.

Biotechnology stands out with 68% of the sector’s stocks (62 out of 91) rating a “buy”. Gentium S.p.A. Sponsored ADR (GENT), Repligen Corporation (RGEN) and Insys Therapeutics, Inc. (INSY) are paving the way for the sector with A grades. Repligen Corporation beats the other stocks in its sector, with a 522.3% increase from a year ago.
