Customers that have a preorder for the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple’s 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6, will have to wait until early October to get their hands on the device. Those who ordered their devices through a wireless carrier will likely have to wait longer and won’t receive their smartphones until mid October at the soonest, reports USA Today.

Preorders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus opened at midnight Pacific Time. This led to many sites, including the Apple Store, experiencing trouble due to the surge of traffic. While the iPhone 6 Plus preorders are closed, customers can still place a preorder for the 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6. The version of the smartphone is still expected to be shipped on September 19, USA Today notes.

According to Apple, the iPhone 6 has reached a record in the number of preorders placed, but it didn’t say how many of the upcoming smartphones were ordered.

Apple’s has had to delay shipments of iPhones in the past. The iPhone 5 saw a one week delay when it was released in 2012 and the iPhone 4S saw preorders sell out with many carriers five days after they were opened, reports Bloomberg.

AAPL shares were up slightly as of Friday afternoon.
