Apple (AAPL) has revealed just how well its offer of a free U2 album did.

apple-free-u2-album-aaplAccording to Apple senior VP of internet software and services Eddy Cue, the free U2 album, titled Songs of Innocence, was downloaded 26 million times. Prior to the free album, only 14 million iTunes users had downloaded the band’s music, reports Billboard.

With the help of Tunes, iTunes Radio and Beats Music, more than 81 million Apple users heard parts of the free U2 album. However, U2 fans won’t be able to get everything from the tech company. A limited edition of Songs of Innocence is being released in stores with 10 additional tracks, Billboard notes.

Of the 500 million iTunes users that were offered the free U2 album, about 5% downloaded it in its entirety. 16% of iTunes users at least heard a part of the album, reports Time.

When the free U2 album was released to iTunes users, several people complained about being forced to download it. This led to Apple releasing a guide on how to remove Songs of Innocence from a user’s device and iCloud account.
