Death With Dignity: Brittany Maynard Ends Her Life

Brittany Maynard, a terminally ill women, chose to end her life on Saturday.

Brittany Maynard, 29, was diagnosed with brain cancer was told in April that she had six months to live. She moved to Portland, Ore., to take advantage of the state’s Death With Dignity Act. Before this, she lived in California, reports The Los Angeles Times.

Brittany Maynard used a life-ending medication to take her life. Her illness was considered incurable and she suffered from seizures. She supported the Death With Dignity Act and pushed for more legislation like it to be passed while she was alive, reports L.A. Times.

According to The Brittany Maynard Fund, states that already have similar Death With Dignity laws in place include Washington, Montana, Vermont and New Mexico. Oregon has had its Death With Dignity act for 17 years. The state was the first in the U.S. to pass such legislation.
