Taylor Swift has pulled her music from Spotify.
Spotify announced in a blog post that the pop star’s entire catalog has been removed from the music streaming service except for “Safe and Sound,” a song featured in the Hunger Games soundtrack.
The company expressed its love for the singer and said that nearly 16 million of its users played a Taylor Swift song over the last month. Spotify added that Swift’s music was on over 19 million playlists.
“We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want, and that artists have an absolute right to be paid for their work and protected from piracy,” read the blog post.
Taylor Swift publicly condemned piracy in a Wall Street Journal piece
last July. “It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is,” she said.
Spotify finished its blog post with a pleading message for Taylor: “PS – Taylor, we were both young when we first saw you, but now there’s more than 40 million of us who want you to stay, stay, stay. It’s a love story, baby, just say, Yes.”
