Carnegie Mellon University sent acceptance letters to hundreds of students by accident.
An unfortunate computer glitch is the culprit in the blunder, which told about 800 students that they had been accepted into Carnegie Mellon’s master’s in computer science program.
The university apologized for the mistake in an email to victims of the accidental hoax. “This was an error on our part,” read the email.
“While we certainly appreciate your interest in our program, we regret that we are unable to offer you admission this year.”
Carnegie Mellon’s computer science master’s is ranked
among the top programs in the country.
