Don’t freak out. You haven’t missed Mother’s Day 2015 yet!
Mother’s Day will take place on May 10 this year. This puts the holiday on the second Sunday of the month and it’s a time for children to show appreciation to their mothers. Flowers and chocolates are always a good bet for gifts to celebrate the holiday. A card might not be such a bad idea either.
The exact origin of Mother’s Day in the U.S. isn’t known. One version of its history claims that it was started by Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis. Another version claims that it began after the sons of Juliet Calhoun Blakely paid tribute to their mother every year and encouraged others to do the same for their mothers, reports Timeanddate.com.
Mother’s Day is also celebrated around the world, but not always on the same day. It’s believed that the holiday originates from ancient Greek culture and was to honor Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, Timeanddate.com notes.
