‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Tony Lara Dies at 50

Deadliest Catch star Tony Lara has died.

The Discovery Channel star passed away at age 50, according to authorities in South Dakota. He died in Sturgis, South Dakota with the cause of death yet to be determined and an autopsy on Lara will be performed on Tuesday.

Deadliest Catch follows Alaskan crab fishermen and it is considered to be one of the most dangerous professions in the world. Lara first appeared on the show in 2011.

He was the captain of the F/V Cornelia Marie following the death of Captain Phil Harris. Lara appeared in six episodes of Deadliest Catch.

“May you RIP Captain Tony Lara,” the show’s Facebook page posted Sunday. “We know that you are up in heaven watching over the Cornelia Marie and rest of the Bering Sea fleet.”
