Finland is making waves by giving every adult citizen a cool $10,000 a year.
The move is designed to replace most state welfare benefits, the money is tax-free and it applies to all adult Finns regardless of income, wealth or employment status.
The Scandinavian country’s government believes the move will save money as Finland’s welfare system is complex and expensive to run. Doing so would reduce costly bureaucracy.
Finland also believes that more people will want to look for work if this new policy is enforced as some people choose not to work considering this option is better than accepting a minimum wage job.
About 9.5% of Finns are currently our of work. The plan is designed to offer monthly payments of 800 euros ($865) and a pilot of it will be run in late 2016.
The plan will be fully rolled out in 2017.
