The movie Grease is one of the greatest films of the 1970, both for its stylish outfits and its catchy tunes.

Romantics who grew up with the movie as the epitome of high school love may be shocked to hear that a fan theory suggests Sandy Olsson was dead all along. Grease takes a look at the romance between the hunky Danny Zuko and school sweetheart Sandy, but the conspiracy suggests that the beginning and ending of the scene imply something different.

The movie begins with a whirlwind romance between the two characters, which slowly unfolds and evolves with all the boys and girls from their high school witnessing this fairy tale. In the first scene, Danny saves Sandy from drowning in a beach, leading to the beginning of their relationship.

The end of Grease is a bit over the top as it sees the two characters fly away into the sunset on a red convertible. The fan theory asks how can the car fly, implying that the entire romance is imagined by Sandy in an extended coma dream.

“The visions get increasingly outlandish as time passes until finally, as Danny desperately tries to resuscitate her on the beach, she sees herself flying into heaven in her dying moments,” reads the theory, which was first posted on Reddit in 2013.

While many have wondered if there is any validity to this proposition, Bustle magazine Entertainment Editor Anna Klassen tweeted that she asked director Randal Kleiser about it, and he said the theory is “absolute rubbish.”
