A new dating app called Hinge is looking to be an alternative to those who aren’t too fond of Tinder.
Unlike its rival, Hinge is not a “hook-up” app like Tinder, which is sometimes used to build real relationships. The new app states that it is looking to become a relationship app and nothing else.
The “dating apocalypse” as the app calls it is a situation that many Tinder users claim. However, you’ll have to pay $7 a month to use this app.
The term “dating apocalypse” came from a user and Hinge issued this statement in response: “We’ll be using the term ‘dating apocalypse’ in a lot of our external marketing and I want to thank you for helping us realize that we needed to make a change.”
The product’s relaunch took place today, and the company vows to change the online dating culture, which is damaging to a lot of women.
Hinge execs had been hearing complaints by women who reported sexual harassment on Tinder, saying the hookup culture of today allows people to be more direct with how they approach women, turning off a large chunk of its userbase.
Additionally, some men assumed that women swiping right is an invitation to engage in sex. Some men claim it’s a numbers game, and there is no reason to go out to the bars to talk to a woman, when they can talk to 15 at home.
Hopefully Hinge can create the change necessary in the dating world.
