Tinder Embraces Transgenders With 37 New Gender Identity Options

Tinder is appeasing the transgender community by offering 37 new gender identity options.

Tinder

Up until now, you were only capable of choosing “man” or “woman” as options on the dating app. Users in the U.S., UK and Canada can choose to identify themselves as “transgender,” “trans woman,” or a choice from a slate of other identity choices.

The move is a response to the recent election results that threaten to take away the rights of the LGBTQ community that has taken so much blood, sweat and tears to attain. Tinder is hoping that this move will help even the playing field for users of all backgrounds.

In order to choose your gender identity, hit “I Am” in the profile part of your app. Go to “More” and you can choose one of nearly 40 identity choices that define who you are by typing them in.

You don’t have to list a gender if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, but it is an option that you now have. The company said that those who have a problem with the move are welcome to not use Tinder.

“In addition to this new feature, we are learning to be a better ally to transgender and gender non-conforming communities by allocating additional resources to our support team, which includes educating our staff about the challenges facing these communities,” Tinder wrote.

President-elect Donald Trump

recently appointed Steve Bannon as his chief White House strategist and senior counselor, who comes with far-right ideologies that could threaten the transgender community, but companies such as Tinder are making a stand against any injustices that the new government may attempt to bring forward.
