AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) is now conducting its first test of 5G wireless.

AT&T Inc., T, Intel Corporation, INTC, Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, ERIC, 5GAT&T Inc. is holding these tests at Intel Corporation’s (NASDAQ:INTC) offices in Austin, Texas. Intel and Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) have been helping the company with the 5G wireless tests.

The AT&T Inc. 5G wireless test at Intel’s Austin office uses millimeter wave technology. This allows the service to provide workers with speeds close to 14 gigabits per second. The company hopes this test will show it how well 5G wireless can work in a business setting.

AT&T Inc.’s 5G wireless tests will include over a gigabit per second bandwidth. It will use this to test “internet access, VPN, Unified Communications applications and 4K video streams.” It will also test 5G VoIP over 15GHz and 28GHz spectrum bands.

“Ericsson is working with AT&T and other leading operators and ecosystem players to drive the realization of 5G,” Thomas Noren, Head of Product Area Network Products at Ericsson, said in a statement. “This trial takes us a step closer to 5G commercialization, validating the feasibility of outdoor-to-indoor mmWave coverage for business customers.”

AT&T Inc. has also been working on another internet project recently with Project AirGig. Project AirGig is a system that allows the company to equip power lines with small, plastic antennas. These antennas can use millimeter wave signals from 4G LTE and 5G networks to provide internet to users. The wireless company claims Project AirGig could bring multi-gigabit wireless internet speeds to those living in rural areas.
