The Amazon baby registry email claims that a gift is being sent to the user. It specifically notes that someone bought a gift on that person’s baby registry and that it is being sent to them. However, the email was accidentally sent out to a large group of users.

The majority of the users that were sent the email did have an Amazon baby registry set up. Others that received the email didn’t have a baby registry with the online retailer. AMZN says that it is aware of the problem and is alerting users that got the email about the issue, reports Fortune.

It still isn’t known what exactly caused the Amazon baby registry email to be sent out, but it was likely a technical glitch connected to the retail company’s servers. Users that attempted to follow the link back to the registry list were sent to a page to set up a registry. Others plainly had a broken link in the email.

The nature of the Amazon baby registry email led some users to pass it off as a phishing attack. However, it really was an email from the online retailer. This led to some users joking about the email on social media, CNN notes.

Either way, no harm was done and the company has apologized for the error.

AMZN stock was down slightly as of Wednesday morning, but is up 29% year-to-date.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
