The car just destroyed the record for the shortest Nürburgring lap by a Porsche. Here are seven things to know about it:
- The company had estimated the 911 GT2 RS would be able to finish a lap at the course in under 6m 50s, and its fastest lap was a 6m 47.3s lap.
- The figure was faster than the previous Porsche record of its 918 Spyder.
- The only road cars faster than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS are the Nio EP9 – a £1.4million electric supercar – and the McLaren P1 LM, a racecar turned road car.
- The vehicle was first unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, including a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre horizontally-opposed six-cylinder petrol engine.
- The new 1470kg coupe packs 700 horsepower.
- The Porsche 911 GT2 RS also comes equipped with 750Nm of torque, and the company claims it can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h roughly 0.1 seconds faster than the four-wheel drive 911 Turbo S at 2.8 seconds.
- You can also get the vehicle with the Weissach package, which is an upgrade that makes the vehicle lighter by 30 kg (66.1 lbs), replacing parts of the car with carbon-fiber reinforced plastic and titanium materials.
The starting price of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS without the upgrade comes at $294,250, making it more affordable than most vehicles that can match a similar speed.
