Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is releasing a new waterproof Kindle.
The new waterproof e-reader from Amazon is called the Kindle Oasis. AMZN says that the new device is able to survive submersion in fresh water for up to 60 minutes while at a depth of two meters. It will also survives splashes of beach water and being dropped in a bath, pool or hot tub.
Amazon notes that the new Kindle Oasis features a 7-inch display with 300 ppi. It features page turn buttons and gestures, as well as more words on screen. The device is also designed for faster page turning and has a glare proof screen.
The new Kindle Oasis features a 3.4 mm display with a strong cover glass and aluminum back. The devices also only comes in at 196 grams. The weigh is centered near the middle of the device so that users can easily hold it with either hand.
Amazon doesn’t give exact details for how long the Kindle Oasis’ battery will last. What it does say is that the device has a battery life that lasts for weeks, not hours. It also features quick charging that will take it from no battery life to full in two hours.
Amazon will be selling two versions of the Kindle Oasis. The first version comes with 8 GB of storage, while the second features 32 GB of storage. The new Kindle is compatible with Audible and the larger version may work better for audiobook fans.
The new Kindle Oasis is available for preorder and will start shipping at the end of the month. It costs $249.99.
