Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has teamed up with German company DHL to roll out self-driving delivery trucks.

NvidiaThe company announced Wednesday at DHL’s GPU Technology Conference that DPDHL will start equipping the company’s electric light trucks with a self-driving software starting on 2018. The software is called ZF ProAI and it is based on Nvidia’s Drive PX Technology, made up of multiple sensors such as cameras, liar and radar.

The system will allow AI to give trucks a safer path in their delivery business as these vehicles will be able to select a route and park themselves. Current drivers will not be replaced as they will still be on board while the vehicles transport and deliver packages.

Drivers will also be able to haul the trucks using an app on their smartphone. Kevin Curran, a senior member of the IEEE and lecturer at the University of Ulster, said that, unlike humans, “computers don’t get bored, tired or distracted because they want to change the radio station or send a text message”.

Nvidia echoed this sentiments as the company believes that automating truck delivery services will help avoid accidents without sacrificing delivery time or leading to the exhaustion of a driver.

“The development of autonomous delivery vehicles demonstrates how AI and deep learning are also reshaping the commercial transportation industry,” said Jensen Huang, Nvidia founder and CEO.

NVDA stock surged 1.9% Tuesday.
