Apple Inc. (AAPL) News – Yahoo! Trashes Apple Ad Initiative

Here is your daily Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) stock news and rumors for September 16, 2010. Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE), not done dominating Apple headlines, unveiled a preview version of Flash with support for 64-bit operating systems including Mac OS X. Elsewhere, Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) talks some trash on Apple’s advertising initiatives. Finally, Apple sends out the beta version of its latest iOS update to developers across the land.

Adobe Releases 64-Bit Flash Player Beta: Adobe isn’t just putting together renewed support on AAPL’s mobile operating system iOS. The technology company announced yesterday that they are releasing a preview version of their Flash player with native 64-bit support. The new player is codenamed “Square.” While Square’s support of the open-source Linux operating system is more of a refresh, it marks the first time Flash is going to be available natively on 64-bit Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows and Mac operating systems. Adobe recently announced that they have restarted work on tools to let iOS developers port apps made with Flash to Apple’s mobile devices such as the iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone 4. So much for Apple’s anti-Flash policy!

iAd’s Will Fail Says Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz: Yahoo!, the one-time king of online advertising, is feeling a bit threatened by Apple’s new foray into mobile advertising, iAd. With Yahoo!’s market share in the field crumbling as competitor Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) grows by billions each year, the beleaguered company is looking to mobile platforms like smartphones and tablet computers as the savior of their ad business. In an interview published by Reuters, Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz took a dig at Apple, saying that iAd will fail because of AAPL’s insistence on controlling the advertising platform completely. “That’s going to fall apart for them. Advertisers are not going to have that type of control over them. Apple wants control over those ads,” said Bartz. With a much bigger audience on more varied platforms than Yahoo!, it’s probable that advertisers will do whatever they have to reach Apple’s ever-expanding base of iPhone and iPad users.

iOS 4.2 Beta Released for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad: Developers working on Apple’s mobile platforms have been sent a beta version of the company’s latest operating system update, iOS 4.2. The beta supports the latest models of each mobile devices, including the iPhone 4, iPad and the just released fourth-generation iPod Touch in addition to older devices like the iPhone 3G and 3GS, third-, and even second-generation iPod Touch handhelds. The beta will allow developers to test software in anticipation of the operating system update’s full roll out expected in November. The new AirPrint wireless printing feature allowing users on iOS devices to wirelessly print documents will apparently need to install the beta software on both the iOS 4.2 beta as well as the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update beta to fully test the feature.
