The upcoming Apple (AAPL) iPhone iteration — iPhone 6 — is rumored to include a barometer and other sensors to provide weather-related info.
The sensors in the iPhone 6 will measure atmospheric pressure and altitude according to reports.
The smartphone’s debut — which would be a hit with outdoor enthusiasts — is expected to come in September.
The information regarding the next-generation iPhone likely including this sensor comes via Xcode 6 and iOS 8, the latest iPhone software development kit and operating system. The software includes updated CoreMotion APIs that clearly reference the new altitude measuring capabilities:
The M8 motion co-processor is expected to run the iPhone 6.
Note that there are already reports floating about other additions that the iPhone 6 will include.
Among the whispers, the Apple iPhone 6 is expected to have a sharper display borne of sapphire glass and a slimmer design.
The display is expected to be larger — with speculation on two iPhone sizes, one measuring 4.7 inches and the other 5.5 inches.
AAPL stock is up 14% year to date.
