Starbucks’ baristas have been asked by the company to write the words Race Together on customers’ cups. This is meant to help spark race relation conversations with customers. However, baristas don’t have to take part in the campaign and customers can request a normal cup, reports The Los Angeles Time.

The Race Together campaign comes from Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Shultz claims that ignoring problems with race relations is part of the problem and hopes the campaign will help address the matter. The idea comes from a forum that saw employees talking about the events in Ferguson, L.A. Times notes.

“Race Together is not a solution, but it is an opportunity to begin to re-examine how we can create a more empathetic and inclusive society — one conversation at a time,” Shultz told USA Today.
